How to Play Anime Higher or Lower

Basic rules

Each round shows two anime character cards. The left card displays its Popularity Score. The right card hides its score. Your job is to decide whether the hidden score is higher or lower than the visible score. After you choose, the hidden score is revealed and the game tells you whether the guess was correct.

A correct answer moves you to the next comparison. In Endless Mode, one wrong answer ends the current run. That makes the game easy to start but hard to master, because close score matchups can turn a strong streak into a risky decision.

You do not need to know every character before playing. The game is built around relative judgment. If the visible score is very high, you are deciding whether the hidden character is in the same broad recognition tier. If the visible score is modest, you are deciding whether the hidden character has enough name recognition, story importance, or fan attention to pass it. This makes each round readable even when one of the names is unfamiliar.

Game modes

Endless Mode: play as long as you keep guessing correctly. This mode is best for chasing a personal best streak.
Daily Challenge: play the same 10-question board as everyone else for the day. The challenge resets at UTC 00:00.

Endless Mode and Daily Challenge reward different habits. Endless Mode is about risk management across a long run. Daily Challenge is about accuracy across a fixed set of 10 comparisons. If you are new, Daily Challenge is the better warm-up because it gives you a clear score even if you miss a question early.

Scoring and streaks

A streak is the number of correct guesses you make before a miss. In Endless Mode, every correct answer adds one to the run. In Daily Challenge, the board has 10 questions, so your score is easier to compare from day to day. The game stores local progress in your browser, which means your best streak is available on the same device without requiring an account.

Because the score is local, clearing browser storage or switching devices can reset visible progress. This is intentional for the current version: the game stays lightweight and avoids account creation, profiles, comments, uploads, or social features.

Tips for better guesses

Start by thinking about broad recognition. Main characters, long-running series, and characters with strong fan communities often feel safer than niche side characters. However, the best rounds are not always obvious. A character from a smaller series can still have a high score if the fan interest is concentrated.

Watch for close calls. When two characters seem equally recognizable, avoid guessing based on personal preference alone. The score is a game value, not a measure of who is better written or more important to a story.

It also helps to think in tiers. A globally recognized lead character is usually in a different tier from a memorable supporting character, but supporting characters from very active fandoms can still surprise you. When the visible score is close to the middle of the range, assume the matchup was chosen to be uncertain and slow down before answering.

If you are trying to improve, do not only remember misses. Notice the pairs that felt easy and why they were easy. Over time, you will build a sense for which series, archetypes, and character roles tend to create higher game scores.
